About us
Climate Policy Radar is an independent non-profit building open, credible databases and AI-powered tools for climate, nature, and development action.

Our data and tools help governments, researchers, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector to understand and advance effective climate policies and deploy climate finance. Harnessing data science and AI – including pioneering applications of natural language processing in this field – we make previously unstructured, siloed data easier to find, understand, and act on.

We are a team of policy experts, engineers, data scientists, product thinkers, communicators, and operators. We care deeply about how we work – our values, culture, and ways of collaborating – as well as what we build. As part of that, we have embraced a flexible, hybrid approach to work, including a four-day workweek.

Roles and responsibilities

In this role, you will be the expert voice for our users, business, data, and industry. You will work with our cross-functional teams to ensure we solve the right problems and build the right things at the right time.  You will take products and features from discovery and ideation, through design, delivery, and preparation for launch, to measuring of success, and through subsequent iterations.

You will lead on the CMS and data curation product capabilities that our internal teams and partner organisations use to curate documents and metadata in our database.  We currently have 35,000 documents in our database from approximately 10 partners. We expect this to grow significantly.

Our ideal candidate has a broad set of skills and experiences and interests so they would be happy working on any of our products.

  • Develop, strategy, and roadmap for your product area(s), ensuring alignment with wider product and organisational goals.

  • Work to identify product opportunities together with our users and stakeholders, including research institutions, international organisations, industry, legal professionals, and more, as well as with our internal cross-functional teams.

  • Lead product discovery, conducting user research, market research, and data analysis to understand which problems to solve and how.

  • Collaborate with your team to rapidly test hypotheses to determine the right thing to build for our users – supported by data and evidence – while managing cost and delivery timelines with a lean start-up mentality.

  • Define measures of success for your product(s), and monitor and measure these metrics at a product and feature level.

  • Collaboratively maintain and prioritise the product backlog. Break down work into smaller value chunks and release value early and often, while maintaining product documentation to a high standard.

  • Help the team plan iterations, releases, and dependency management, ensuring stakeholders are kept up to date.

  • Support your team to be high-performing, happy, and healthy.

  • Be inspired by advances in AI, new technology and other organisations solving similar problems to us. Use what you learn to identify opportunities for improving our products and ways of working.

  • Champion “Build Measure Learn”, creating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, especially in discovery and delivery methodologies.

  • Manage relationships with any third parties related to your product and  communicate externally about our products.

You bring with you:
  • You have at least five years of experience working on software or technology products, with at least three of those years as a product manager. Ideally your experience includes:

    1. Managing CMS, data curation or document database products

    2. B2B2C or white-labelled products targeted at professional audiences

  • You have experience organising, structuring and labelling information so that people can find and use it easily.  You can make informed decisions about metadata schemas, taxonomies, content quality standards, and curation processes. You're comfortable discussing technical trade-offs in these domains with engineers and experts while keeping user needs central.

  • You have experimented with using AI to improve products or processes you are responsible for, and you have a desire to experiment more.

  • You have demonstrated success in defining and launching excellent products, dual track discovery/delivery experience, and an understanding of the product life cycle.

  • You have experience in conducting user research, analysing data, and coordinating teams.

  • You understand and have a passion for research and data-driven decision-making ideally in the legal, policy, or academic worlds (you will be supported by domain experts).

  • You have a good understanding of product success metrics and when to use them.

  • You are a proactive and clear communicator with people from diverse backgrounds (technical and non-technical)

  • You have excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills.

  • You have the ability to bring people together towards a shared vision and the ability to compromise in the right way.

  • You have a passion for good product design and the experience to back up your views.

  • You understand best practices when it comes to product management and are able to advocate for the right approach for each context.

  • A strong interest in the climate, nature, law and policy domains, and a desire to learn more.

  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic and growth-focused environment.

Our ideal candidate will champion excellence, open source, and delightful user experiences. We are looking for candidates with experience in highly collaborative cross-functional teams, excitement about working in a startup/scaleup environment, and all that brings.

We are a mission driven organisation, and work best with people who have strong alignment with our values. We care about them deeply.

We actively encourage applicants from diverse and historically underrepresented backgrounds.
