About us

Contract | £15/hour, flexible - up to 20 hours a week | London-Hybrid

Climate Policy Radar is an independent non-profit building open, credible data infrastructure and AI-powered tools for climate, nature, and development action.

Our data and tools help governments, researchers, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector to understand and advance effective climate policies and deploy climate finance. Harnessing data science and AI – including pioneering applications of natural language processing in this field – we make previously unstructured, siloed data easier to find, understand, and act on.

We are a team of policy experts, engineers, data scientists, product thinkers, communicators, and operators. We care deeply about how we work – our values, culture, and ways of collaborating – as well as what we build. As part of that, we have embraced a flexible, hybrid approach to work, including a four-day workweek.

Roles and responsibilities

We’re looking for a part-time research assistant that either has or is working towards an undergraduate or masters degree in a climate, nature, development, law or policy related field. We are looking for someone that can focus deeply on repetitive tasks, has strong attention to detail, and great time management skills. You will support the work of the programmes team, helping us keep our world-leading climate and nature database up to date. This is ideal for a student looking for flexible part-time work. You will perform the following tasks:

  • Helping us upload relevant climate and nature laws and policies to our database.

  • Data cleaning (e.g. finding replacement URLs for broken links that have been identified, filling data gaps like missing dates or authors).

  • Other administrative tasks related to the upkeep of the database as requested by the team.

You bring with you:

  • Past experience performing detail-oriented, methodical research, data and analytical tasks

  • An interest in climate and/or nature policy and law and a curiosity to learn more.

  • Good time management skills

  • Reliability and strong communication abilities

  • Values that are aligned with ours

Salary and Benefits:

  • You will be working as a self-employed contractor for up to 20 hours per week.  We pay £15/hour with flexible hours.

  • Ideally you will work with us for 3-6 months with an opportunity for further work.

  • This is a consulting role, not employment. You will work with us as an independent contractor and remain responsible for your own taxes and statutory obligations.

  • You may work remotely and/or from our offices near Farringdon.

Interview process

We know that applying for a new job can be full of uncertainties - and we aim to reduce those by communicating clearly. Our process requires the submission of your CV followed by a 30-minute interview with two members of the team. After this, we aim to get back to you within a week.

If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation during the process of application and selection, please let us know.

Applications will be open until 4th June. We reserve the right to suspend or extend applications.

Right to Work in the UK

We are required to check that all consultants have the legal right to work in the UK. You’ll need to provide proof of this before starting and if requested in future. Please note that we cannot accept applications from individuals on student visas with restrictions on self employed work.

Equal opportunities

Climate Policy Radar is proud to be an equal-opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We will not discriminate and will take affirmative action measures to ensure against discrimination in employment, recruitment, advertisements for employment, compensation, termination, upgrading, promotions, and other conditions of employment against any employee or job applicant on the bases of heritage, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disabilities, relationship choices and status. We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.

We actively encourage applicants from diverse and historically underrepresented backgrounds. Not sure if you tick all the boxes but feel like you align with our values, are excited about working in Climate Change and AI and have the potential to do well in the role? Click apply! We’d love to hear from you.
